    Port Angeles Radio (John W Mowbray- Pres, Sam Ewing-General Manager, Gary Bruno-Program Director, Bob Marx-News Director, Lee Hurley-Chief Engineer, represented by Feltis, Dore, Deever & Cannon originally was granted their construction permit for 1290 KC 1 KW DA Day on Dec 7th 1960, which had originaly been applied for on October 30th 1958.  KAPY 1290 AM was granted its first license to cover on August 23rd 1961. Soon afterwards  they were granted the original call letters of KAPY.   On Jan 8th 1965 there was a voluntary transfer of control to John H Thatcher. On July 31th 1967,  Mr Charles Herring-Pres, GM & News Director, Mrs Jane Forsberg-News, Jim Roberts-Program Director, Lee Cameron-Chief Engineer had purchased KAPY and were having fun with "KAPY Country" On Oct 10th 1978 Strait Corp, Tom Newcomb-Pres & General Manager, Clerance Spiekerman-Chief Engineer purchased KAPY and launched a "Natural Sound" format. After a couple different owners, KAPY 1290 AM officially went off the air on October 18th 2006,  after 45 years of providing local radio to the community of Port Angeles, WA.

Dry Creek Community Broadcasting was formed on March 24 th 2000, with the vision of bringing  a new idea of broadcasting to the Community of Port Angeles, after many trying times and numerous application, Dry Creek Community Broadcasting was granted a construction permit on April 26th 2007 for a FM station station on 95.5 khz. On Dec 15th 2009. Dry Creek was assigned the call letters KAPY and a long time classic radio station was reinvented in the form of community radio. KAPY is part of Port Angeles radio history, so we will be  "Proudly playing almost 50 years of Traditional Country Classics!"

“We hope to educate listeners by helping them learn something about the many great singers that put the country into true country music.” Listeners will hear information such as, the life history and personal stories of certain artists, dates of when certain songs were recognized on the charts, song that didn’t make the charts, live interviews with some of the artists and “we have included a show that stands to touch the imagination of young and old alike” Radio Lovers brings stories like “The Lone Ranger, Dragnet and many others back to their beginning on the radio. These are just some of the things that Dry Creek Community Broadcasting doing to make  KAPY a little different than everyday radio. 

KAPY also believes in helping to educate our youth, currently, we are striving to become a learning center for some of the youth in the Olympic Peninsula. These programs will give local teenagers an opportunity to get hands on experience in the radio broadcasting industry.
